Kyle Weems from Missouri State Wins StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week - January 2nd, 2012

With a solid performance that included going up against the #21 team in the nation, Kyle Weems, a 6-6 senior from Missouri State, has been selected StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week. StatSheet's NCAA Freshman of the Week is Kentucky's Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Russ Smith from Louisville is StatSheet's NCAA 6th Man of the Week. Weems put up a strong 26.5 points per game and 8 rebounds per game, leading his team to victories against 21st ranked Creighton and Drake.

Weems led scoring (31) and rebounding (7) for the Bears in a 77-65 upset win against Creighton. He then led the team in scoring (22) and rebounding (9) in a 72-61 victory over Drake.

This is the first StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week award for Kyle Weems. The runner-up this week is senior Lance Goulbourne from Vanderbilt. Honorable mention goes to senior Ryan Pearson from George Mason.

StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week: Kentucky's Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist played an average of 32 minutes starting both games for the Wildcats. In a mammoth 86-64 win against Lamar, Kidd-Gilchrist took the lead in scoring with 18 points while churning out 4 assists. In a 69-62 win over Louisville, he led scoring and rebounding with 24 and 19.

This is the first StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week award for Kidd-Gilchrist. The runner-up is Anthony Davis from Kentucky. Honorable mention goes to Trey Burke from Michigan.

StatSheet NCAA 6th Man of the Week: Louisville's Russ Smith

Sophomore Russ Smith averaged 25 minutes over two games for the Cardinals. In a 71-68 loss to Georgetown, Smith chalked up 14 points and 3 rebounds. Then in a 69-62 loss to Kentucky, he led all scoring and rebounding with 30 and 5.

This is the first time this season Smith has won the StatSheet NCAA 6th Man of the Week award. C.J. Fair, a sophomore forward from Syracuse, is runner-up. Luke Fabrizius, a senior forward from Dayton, wins honorable mention.
