With solid performances against top-tier competition, including one team in the RPI Top 50 and another in the Top 100, Kevin Jones, a 6-8 senior from West Virginia, is the StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week. Kentucky's Anthony Davis is the StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week and StatSheet's NCAA 6th Man of the Week is Washington State's Faisal Aden. Jones put up an impressive 25.5 points per game and 10 rebounds per game, lifting the Mountaineers to victories against Marshall and Cincinnati.
Jones led scoring (25) and rebounding (7) for the Mountaineers in a 78-62 win against Marshall. He then led the team in scoring (26) and rebounding (13) in a narrow 77-74 victory over Cincinnati.
This is the first time this season that Kevin Jones has been selected StatSheet NCAA Player of the Week. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is junior Thomas Robinson from Kansas. Honorable mention goes to senior Jordan Taylor from Wisconsin.
StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week: Kentucky's Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis played an average of 37 minutes starting both games for the Wildcats. He led all freshmen in blocked shots (5.5 per game). In a mammoth 86-63 win against Arkansas, Davis led scoring and rebounding with 27 and 14, respectively. In a 77-71 win over Alabama, he led rebounding with 9 and also had 4 steals.
Davis has won the StatSheet NCAA Freshman of the Week an astounding 3 times. The runner-up is Tony Mitchell from North Texas. Joe Coleman from Minnesota takes honorable mention.
StatSheet NCAA 6th Man of the Week: Washington State's Faisal Aden
Senior Faisal Aden averaged 29 minutes over two games for the Cougars. In an 81-69 win over Stanford, Aden led the Cougars in scoring with 33 points and adding 5 rebounds. Then while escaping California, 77-75, he led all scoring with 24 points shooting 75%.
This is the first time this season Aden has won the StatSheet NCAA 6th Man of the Week award. Neil Watson, a sophomore guard from Southern Miss, is runner-up. Derrick Nix, a junior center from Michigan State, wins honorable mention.
