Ryan Broekhoff from Valparaiso has earned StatSheet's Horizon Player of the Week award for January 2nd. Butler's Kameron Woods has been recognized as StatSheet Horizon Freshman of the Week. And finally, Tony Meier from Milwaukee has won StatSheet's Horizon 6th Man of the Week. Broekhoff had 50% shooting, 16.5 points per game, and 9.5 rebounds per game. The Valparaiso junior played a big role in a victory against Green Bay and an unfortunate loss to Milwaukee.
Broekhoff led scoring and rebounding for the Crusaders with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 57-55 loss to Milwaukee. He followed that up by leading the team in rebounding with 7 and an additional 5 steals in a narrow 90-87 victory against Green Bay.
This is the first time this season that Ryan Broekhoff has been named StatSheet Horizon Player of the Week. However, he has finished second more than once and received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Youngstown State senior DuShawn Brooks. Honorable mention goes to Damian Eargle, a junior from Youngstown State. Eli Holman was the highest ranking player from Detroit, finishing 19th.
